Getting Kids To Tune In

Summer over at Mom is Teaching posted a great Question for Homeschoolers on Friday:

What do you do when your child refuses to tune in (much less stop running around) while you’re trying to, say, read him a story or even try to explain the correct spelling of a word?

This is something that I struggle with all the time. I have 3 very active and sometimes hyper children. If they are too hyper I end up letting them out to play, getting them to read quietly or even dance to a really silly song. This doesn't always work. Sometimes it makes them more hyper or we have a had time getting back on track.

So my question is the same thing as Summer...What do you do???

I have not experienced this issue since Alexis was in preschool but at the point i would let her go. Now she sits and pays attention till I say we are over.

I would recommend maybe a behavior chart but for school type thing. although in the past u have expressed that does not work. maybe change the approach u are using. Wish I could be of more help!
