A Kid's View of The Garden

I went to upload pictures from my camera and found pictures that Squirrel & Tracker took of our garden.

Some Friendly Visitors

This little guy was very hard to snap a picture of. It moved very quickly.

We found the spider while we were creating a new garden bed. We spent 2 hours making a bed for the kids' sunflower seeds.

This Week's Garden Pictures

We also found something kinda gross growing on the bricks surrounding my garden. Does anyone happen to know what this is??
****Thank you so much to Theresa. She was correct it is Dog Vomit Slime Mold. What a gross name. Here is a site where you can learn more about it.****

Compost Pumpkins

After Halloween last year we out our jack-o-lanterns in our compost pile. We were mighty surprised to find pumpkins growing in our compost pile. This things are HUGE. Here is a picture that I took maybe a month ago if that. Here are some pictures that I just took of them. I am going to have to go back tomorrow and get one of the flower open. It is as big as a dessert plate.
Here is picture comparing the leaf to Squirrel's hand.

If nothing else this is a great science lesson on how compost can help your garden. LOL.

A Morning in the Garden

We started the day with a trip to Lowe's. We needed to buy some dirt, a few more plants and a couple of planters. We ended up buying 4 bags of dirt, eggplant seedlings, a yellow squash and a cucumber plant. We also bought a container for dh's stevia plant and 2 terra cotta pots to make toad abodes.

We had planned on making a new flower bed, but we found some unwanted visitors, fire ants. We are now trying to decide how to get rid of them without harming the future veggie garden. We have decided to make a new bed for flowers. The kids want to grow a sunflower garden and I also have some bulbs that we need to plant. So I guess we will do that once we get that rebate check.

The kids also picked up the yard so that dh could mow the grass. While they were cleaning the yard, they found a friend.

Around the Yard

I was inspired by Theresa to post some pictures from around my yard.

The pumpkins were found growing in our compost pile. We had put our Jack-O-Lanterns from last year in there. The kids wanted to see what would happen when the pumpkins decomposed. Well we now have over 10 strong pumpkin plants growing. :)
