Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras Glitter Graphics

Today is Fat Tuesday. I didn't remember that until it was too late to do anything to plan anything. So we are going to celebrate on Saturday. Today we are going to make some masks, or maybe these masks. We are going to check out lots of recipes to make. Of course we will have to do some improvisation since we don't eat meat. We will learn all about Mardi Gras. I am looking forward to make a King Cake I have never had one before. We are going to create our own beads and floats(see below).

Here is a lesson plan for grades 4 & up but it has some wonderful ideas. Don't forget to check out just "How Mardi Gras Works".

Here are are some Mardi Gras Math Cards.

Design your own Mardi Gras Parade Float

First, choose a theme. A favorite holiday, a country, an animal, a famous person, etc. are all ideas for themes.

A shoe box is a great base to use to create a float. Turn the bottom of the shoe box upside down, so the flat part is on top. Attach the cover of the shoe box to either side so that it stands on end. Cover the shoe box with colored paper, foil, gift wrap or any combination and decorate the float according to its' theme. Small toys, dolls and wooden figures can also be used. Make more than one float and have a whole parade!
